There are opportunities both near and far to answer the directive of God to go into the world. It can be within this neighborhood or the expanded community of foreign endeavors. Your gifts and abilities were granted you by our Lord for service to the Kingdom good.
Below is a list of Local Missions that Alice Bell is involved in .

Appalachian Ministries - On Going
Appalachian Ministries encompass many missions opportunities, including direct participation on the Appalachian field and serving locally to collect supplies for the various ministries. A sampling of needs:
  • MIHOW (Marriage/Infant/Home Outreach Workers) is an agency that trains expectant mothers and young parents in nutrition and parenting. MIHOW needs clothing, vitamins, baby items, liquid Tylenol, etc. collected for use in the program.
  • Camp Howard needs a volunteer cook for the month of June, construction teams to work on substandard housing in the area.
  • Henderson Settlement KY needs volunteer math & reading tutors-one month assignment, housing furnished.
  • The Blackmont KY mission needs assistance with community outreach. They also need general home supplies and small appliances for their ministry to burnout victims.
  • Jimmie Hodges is linked to several ministries in the Appalachian area that need clothing, over-the-counter medical supplies, school supplies, hygiene supplies, used bicycles.
Jimmie also needs local warehouse space for this vital ministry.

Cost: Varies according to the ministry and level of involvement.

Servant Evangelism - On Going
Servant evangelism is a unique tool to help us meet persons in our neighborhood
- many of whom need to be introduced to Jesus Christ. And it is a non-threatening,
low-risk, high-grace approach to sharing His love. At least four times during the next year we will set aside a special time (approximately 2-3 hours, normally on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.

We will do projects such as:
  • distribute free light bulbs to homes in our community
  • distribute free bottled water or cokes at a community sporting event
  • distribute free coffee on a cold morning in one of our local shopping center parking lots
  • escort patrons to their car, umbrella in hand, on a dreary rainy day at a local shopping center
  • distribute free smoke detector batteries in our community
  • etc.

As we do these projects, we will provide a written note that: 1)expresses that the love of Christ is our initiative in serving and 2) invites them to ABBC.

Requirements: 2-3 hours, Christ’s love
Cost: Most funding will come from the outreach/evangelism budget

Financial Assistance - On Going
Perhaps you cannot participate directly in one of the missions opportunities.
Or, perhaps you can but you would simply like to have the opportunity to help someone else participate. You can help by providing financial assistance where special needs exist. Simply indicate your desire to consider giving financial assistance. When a special need arises, we will communicate with you (through a short meeting of all persons wishing to give or through the mail).

We will communicate details about the project and explain the financial need.
Then, you decide if this is a need you are led to help meet. There will be no pressure to give; we will simply make you aware of the need. Since all gifts will be for the project rather than an individual person, gifts will be tax deductible.

ABCteam - On Going
A new name for an established ministry—the Alice Bell Carpenter Team, sponsored by the men’s ministry of our church, is involved in small repair jobs within the local community. This team provides handyman type services for both church members non-members who need special assistance. Volunteers in all crafts—painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, etc. are needed. Team members are contacted as needs arise to develop a team for specific projects. Normally the homeowner is expected to pay for materials while the team provides volunteer labor.
Requirements: Tools
Cost: Normally no costs are associated with this ministry.

Truck Stop Ministries - On Going

The truck stop ministry began in October 2001, at the Petro truck stop at Watt Road in west Knoxville. Since that time, an average of almost 1 person per week has been saved. Currently this ministry is a cooperative effort of Knox, Loudon

and Big Emory associations, using volunteers. 5 teams of volunteers lead services at the Truckers Chapel on Sundays at 11 AM and 7 PM.
The opportunity to expand this ministry with a second chapel at Strawberry Plains exit on I-40 is a strong possibility.
Requirements: Love for Christ and people
Cost: Normally no cost is involved with this ministry.
